Isn’t it wonderful when a visit to an eagerly anticipated new brewpub exceeds all expectations. In this case it’s particularly so because my first attempt to visit ended in disappointment. I’m speaking of Outlander Brewery & Pub, the tiny nanobrewery in an old Victorian house that opened in Fremont in August… Continue reading

Bremerton: More Than A Summer Brewfest?
For Seattle beer fans Bremerton poses an awkward question: is there more than just the Summer Brewfest to tempt us across the water? No offence to Der Blokken Brewery but previously they alone didn’t provide enough justification to make the 2-hour round trip on the ferry, except of course for that awesome Summer Brewfest. However with the recent openings of Silver City’s Bremerton taproom and Slaughter County’s Port Orchard brewpub, I figured perhaps there is now sufficient critical mass. This post documents my attempt to test my theory: a Fueled by Beer transit trip to Bremerton to visit all three breweries… Continue reading
Beer Trek 2012: Fremont to Ballard
It’s been quite a while since I last beer-trekked my way along Seattle’s Burke-Gilman Trail. And just like the trail’s non-stop foot and pedal traffic, its breweries present an ever-changing scene. So, last weekend it was time to pull on the hiking boots and hit some tasting rooms… Continue reading
Brewery Crawl: Georgetown, SoDo, Stadium District
Within the three miles that sit directly south of downtown Seattle are Stadium, SoDo and Georgetown; home to no less than seven breweries. These gritty industrial neighborhoods are built on what were during Seattle’s early years mudflats at the mouth of the Duwamish River. Today they are a rare phenomenon in Seattle: a completely flat and eminently walkable area; ideal terrain for a brewery crawl… Continue reading
Poulsbo Brews by Transit (Revisited)
Since I wrote my original post on this topic I have revisited all three Poulsbo breweries in one day. This post provides details of my transit itinerary and some updates regarding the breweries… Continue reading
Bellevue’s Lake-to-Lake (L2L) Trail Revisited
Because the L2L Trail passes my home, I’m always walking at least some part of it. But it’s been a while since I hiked all the way to the eastern trailhead at Lake Sammamish. So last week I took advantage of a sunny winter’s day to check out the trail for changes since my last full hike… Continue reading
Beer Trek: The Short Version
Over the Labor Day weekend The Spouse, The Daughter, The Navy Son, his buddy Gage, and your’s truly decided to spend a day sampling chocolate and beer at the Center of the Universe: Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. The day turned into a mini version of the Beer Trek I chronicled back in May… Continue reading
Tiger Mountain Transit Hike: Mission Accomplished
This past Friday I returned to Issaquah to make another attempt at hiking Tiger Mountain. This time everything went according to plan. For the full story and more pictures… Continue reading
How many ways can something go wrong?
The idea was simple enough: hike Tiger Mountain via Metro Bus – been dying to do it. Following two consecutive sunny days, at last a day I could plan for: Friday, May 20th – weather looking good. Recent extended range hikes had no adverse after effects – feeling great. Perhaps one last tromp for my trusty old Hi-Tec hiking boots – feeling sentimental… Continue reading
Beer Trek: Veni, Vidi, Bibi!
It was an ambitious plan: to hike the Burke-Gilman trail from Ballard to the University District and visit every brewery along the way. Your Fueled by Beer blogger was joined by friend and co-worker Mike; we had talked about doing this for ages and now the time had come. Seven miles; seven breweries; in seven hours… Continue reading
