Brighton’s Laine Brewing Company recently opened their seventh London pub location at the Four Thieves in Battersea. The Four Thieves joins Laine’s other brewpub locations The Aeronaut in Acton and The People’s Park Tavern in Hackney. Laine also runs four non-brewing pubs…
The Four Thieves is located close to Clapham Junction at 51 Lavender Gardens, SW11 1DJ, and is also a short walk from the recently opened Brewdog bar at 11-13 Battersea Rise, SW11 1HG. This new site differs from the other two brewpubs in one respect: it also operates a gin distillery. Full food service is in line with Laine’s other locations.
As far as Mr Fueled by Beer can tell Laine is managing its London breweries through a single head brewer and essentially the same core recipes are being brewed at each site, albeit branded differently for each venue. During previous visits to The Aeronaut, Mr & Mrs Fueled have sampled IPA, ESB, a Pale called RPA, and Porter. There is usually one or two specials or seasonals to go with the core brews.
Laine’s London locations:
Laine Brewing is quite conservative by London standards. They stick pretty close to the traditional cask Pale/IPA/Porter formula. We haven’t yet seen any craft keg and consequently in Mr & Mrs Fueled by Beer’s opinion Laine is just OK, but nothing to write home about. Next time we’re in the Hackney area or near Clapham Junction we’ll try out the other two pubs.
