10th Bexley Beer Festival

Last week the Bexley branch of CAMRA held their 10th Bexley Beer Festival in the outdoor marquee at Old Dartfordians Sports Club. Weather was glorious; sunny and unseasonably warm, encouraging attendance during the Thursday and Friday sessions that far exceeded expectations. It became clear that 80 casks (5,760 Imperial pints) would not be enough and before the final Saturday session even got underway three-quarters of the beer was gone. Within two hours of opening on Saturday the few remaining casks ran dry and the festival closed during the afternoon several hours early, making this the most successful Bexley Beer festival to date…

Mr & Mrs Fueled by Beer and The Kentish Son rode the rails from darkest Berkshire to Bexley on Saturday but, like Old Mother Hubbard, when we got there the cupboard was bare. Luckily admission was free to CAMRA members and the festival operated a cash bar so we stayed for a couple of thirds apiece but then left after barely 30 minutes. Because of this, an objective review of the festival can’t be given – the result speaks for itself.
